Valencia Travel Cusco is devoted to helping local communities that are in need. We understand that we live in a third world country and there are many people that are less fortunate than us. Consequently we:
Understand and respect cultures by promoting and communicating their traditions, life styles and heritage to our travellers and our team.
Support communities by involving and co-operating with local natives, utilizing local skills and products, when possible.
Care for the environment by recycling, conserving landscapes, planting trees, and respecting protected areas.
One of our major focuses, which is considered best tour of the year in Cusco, is visiting the community of Waca punku, located about 3 hours from Cusco. There are a number of small villages located on a steep mountainside and the people in this community are isolated from many modern day luxuries we take for granted in our day to day lives. It is our pleasure to bring Christmas or ( Navidad in Spanish) joy to their lives, even if it is only once a year! We dress up in our best Santa Claus, (Papa Noel in Spanish) suits and make sure that this community's Christmas is well celebrated.
Valencia Travel Cusco donates 5% of your total package to help out this community.
We know that this will not solve all of the hardships that this community faces on a day to day basis, but we think it is a good start and a great way to promote more smiles during the Christmas season and make their daily lives a little easier during the holidays.
We bring bags of rice, beans, bread and cookies for the families and a bag of toys and candies for the children.
Each present is specifically age appropriate and includes things like toy dinosaurs, mermaids and Barbie dolls, pencils, notebooks, erasers, watches, flashlights and the famous paneton, (which is a type of peruvian fruit cake), that is very popular here in Peru.
We encourage our guests to save a little space in their luggage in order to bring something small to help these poor communities. These appreciated items can be as simple as a t-shirt, a pair of socks, a baseball cap or a pair of shoes. It is no problem if these items are second hand, just as long as they are clean and in good shape.
Educational materials will always appreciated! Notebooks, pens/pencils, rulers, glue, and more are local favorites. If you really want to be a rock star - bring a calculator!
