Machu Picchu tour packages can include a mountain climb in the archaeological site.. These are called Wayna Picchu Mountain and Machu Picchu Mountain. For many people, entering  Wayna Picchu (Huayna Picchu) is one of the highlights of their Machu Picchu vacation package. This conical mountain is the famous peak that rises to the right of the site.

The elevation of Wayna Picchu is 2693 meters above sea level. This is a fascinating climb up the steep and narrow trail. It leads up the Wayna Picchu mountain, and you can see how the Incas cut the steps straight into the rock. On top of the mountain, you’ll see narrow Inca staircases, the stairs of death, natural caves, and ancient altars. As well as incredible views over the Inca citadel, the Urubamba River, and the surrounding valley. You can even see the Temple of the Condor from above!

Once you have entered Huayna Picchu, it is a relatively short trek lasting 1.5 to 2 hours to reach the summit. However, it is quite challenging and is a very steep climb up some big steps. You will also find yourself scrambling over boulders at the top. There are also some unnerving drops to one side of the narrow stairs. This climb isn't for those with a fear of heights. However, it's rewarding for the brave and energetic. Especially for those who want to take their visit to the next level. Take extra care if you climb this mountain in the rainy season!

The Wayna Picchu climb also includes an optional visit to the great cavern and the magnificent Temple of the Moon. This climb is for those who want to do more hiking inside the archaeological site. It's perfect for marveling at the panoramic view of the ruins and the surrounding valleys. This mountain climb is an add-on service to the general Machu Picchu-only ticket.

If you want a Huayna Picchu ticket, this should be added to your regular entrance ticket (depending on availability). So please let us know at the time of booking.

Visit Wayna Picchu once you have entered the Machu Picchu site. To visit Huayna Picchu is one of the most extraordinary things for you to do in this Inca citadel!

*Important

Huayna Picchu should be included in your general Machu Picchu Entrance Ticket. Please let us know when booking if you would like us to book the Huayna Picchu ticket.
