The Eco Amazonia Lodge is a wonderful lodge located close to Puerto Maldonado and right on the doorstep of the amazing Tambopata National Reserve. The reserve is one of the most biodiverse places on Earth, with 169 mammal species, 632 bird species, more than 1,000 butterfly species, and many species of amphibians, fish and reptiles found here. And with its numerous creeks, swamps and ox-bow lakes, it’s a true jungle paradise.

When you stay at the Eco Amazonia Lodge, which is located on the banks of the Madre de Dios River, you’ll be within a stone’s throw of the reserve. And when you’re not exploring Tambopata, you can relax in your beautiful wooden bungalow, with its private bathroom, mosquito nets, and other facilities (pool, restaurant, bar, and more) that will make your stay in the jungle both comfortable and exhilarating.

When you arrive in Puerto Maldonado, we’ll pick you up from the airport. We’ll start our first excursion right away, as we tour this fascinating jungle city on a bus. Then we’ll head to Puerto Capitanía, where we’ll board a motorized riverboat to navigate on the Madre de Dios River. It will take about two hours to reach the Eco Amazonia Lodge, which is located on the edge of the 10,000-hectare Tambopata Reserve. During our riverboat trip, we’ll keep our eyes open in the hopes of spotting some of the wonderful wildlife that lives in the river or along its banks. We might see capybaras, caimans, turtles, herons, cormorants and many other species that live here.

Once we arrive at the Eco Amazonia Lodge, you’ll be welcomed with an exquisite drink made from local fruits. You’ll then have time to settle in to your bungalow before we all have lunch together. After lunch, your highly experienced and bilingual jungle guide will take you along our interpretive trail which leads to Caiman Cocha, a small lake where we can see black caiman and spectacled caiman.

We’ll then head back to the lodge, and at the end of the evening, you can see the spectacular sunset in the Amazon, with its awe-inspiring colors. Upon returning to the Lodge, a delicious dinner will be ready for you. Then you can relax at the bar and enjoy our excellent games room.

Today you’ll wake up to the sublime sounds of the jungle, and then have a hearty breakfast. After breakfast, we´ll set out on a hike into the depths of the forest, on trails especially prepared with bridges to cross gorges and rivers. During the journey, we will visit the flooded forest and a variety of plants and wildlife, as we head towards the majestic Lake Apu Victor. This beautiful lake has crystal clear waters and is surrounded by marshes and giant trees. Afterwards, we´ll go up to the observation deck, from where we’ll have panoramic views across the lake, and we can watch parrots, macaws, toucans, camungos, shanshos, herons, and other birds. We’ll also see caimans and turtles, and if we’re lucky we might even see giant river otters, some of the most charming animals in the rainforest. After several hours exploring the lake and its surrounds, we´ll head back to the Lodge to enjoy lunch together.

In the afternoon, your jungle guide will take you to Monkey Island, just five minutes away from the lodge. The island is home to five species of monkeys - maquisapas, capuchins, small lion monkeys, frailes, and cotos – many of which are quite accustomed to humans and often come very close. We might be able to spot other animals too, such as coatis and sloths, and a great variety of birds. We’ll stay on the island to enjoy the spectacular sunset and then head back to the lodge, where we can have a fabulous dinner.

Day 3:Lost Cocha and Amazonia Viewpoint

Lost Cocha and Amazonia Viewpoint

After a delicious breakfast, we will start an adventure into the virgin rainforest. Accompanied by a local guide, we´ll go on a hike deep into the jungle, to get to the Lost Cocha. This location is a refuge and feeding ecosystem for a huge variety of animals. Hopefully, we’ll see otters, caimans, turtles, sachavacas (tapirs), and hundreds of colorful birds. The majestic jaguar also lives in this area, but only the luckiest get to see one in the wild….

This area belongs to the Eco Amazonia’s Ecological Reserve and has huge swamps and many aguajales. From here we can go to the observation deck, from which we’ll have great views of the immense and magical rainforest. Afterwards, we´ll go on a fun canoe ride around the lake, after which we’ll return to the lodge for lunch.

You will then enjoy a free afternoon at the lodge to take it as easy or as active as you like!

Day 4:Return to Puerto Maldonado

After a restful night’s sleep, the mighty roars of the howler monkeys will let us know that it’s time to leave their jungle and head back to the city. We’ll have a final breakfast, and then we’ll set off in the boat back to Puerto Maldonado. When we arrive, we’ll take you to the airport for your onward flight, or to your hotel in the city should you decide to stay in Puerto Maldonado for longer. We hope you had a wonderful experience with us in the Amazon Rainforest.
