Have you ever wanted to take a steaming bath in a pool once used by a king? Well, now’s your chance. Los Baños del Inca (Baths of the Inca) is a series of thermal baths which have been in use for hundreds of years. Most famously, they were used by Inca emperors, including the Inca Atahualpa, who spent time bathing here while Francisco Pizarro engaged in the conquest of the Inca Empire.
Today, the Inca baths, which are surrounded by charming gardens, are used by locals and tourists alike for relaxation and for their supposed healing properties. A soak in the sulfuric waters is said to help with a number of ailments, including nerve disorders, aching bones, skin problems and gastritis.
The Baños del Inca are located at Balneario de Pultumarca, about 6 km outside the city of Cajamarca. We’ll take you there and give you plenty of time to relax in the hot springs. There are four different sections in total: the showers, the public baths, the private baths and the Imperial baths. The outdoor pools are open to everyone, while the indoor pools are for private use. There is a sauna, and hydro-massage therapy is available on request.
