Faqs About Peru Day Tours

Where Should I Visit in Peru on a Day Trip?
Peru really does have it all! On a Peru day tour, you can experience ancient marvels and spectacular scenery. The country is divided by majestic Andean peaks, the magical Machu Picchu, and the historic city of Cusco, highlighting Peru's most famous mountainous region that today, is what remains from the invasion of the Spanish to this spectacular Inca land and the fusion of customs, archaeology, and traditions both cultures left behind. Just as mindblowing as the iconic Inca citadel of Machu Picchu and the ex-Inca capital of Peru- Cusco, are the lush expanses of the Amazon Rainforest, the breathtaking azure depths of Lake Titicaca, the exquisite gastronomic scene in Lima, and the mystery of the Nazca Lines. One thing is certain. Peru has something for everyone. In fact, the only thing you have to do is choose where to go on your day tour, and when! Valencia Travel Cusco offers day tours in all the main regions that people visit. They are a great way to see more of the regions you visit in Peru. For example, you have visited Machu Picchu, then what? Cusco day tours will take you to Rainbow Mountain, Humantay Lake, Sacred Valley, and the wonderful remote communities of the Andes! After Lake Titicaca, you can visit Sillustani and Chicuito, and after Kuelap, you can visit Gocta waterfall and the Sarcophagi of Karajia. Our Peru day tours offer extra activities in the region you are visiting, to make sure you enjoy a more complete experience.
Is Lima, Peru, Safe?
Lima is Peru´s capital city. Most people will arrive for their Peru Tour Packages via the Lima International Airport and will generally spend at least a day or two exploring the "City of Kings" on their Lima Tours. This bustling metropolis more than makes up for its crazy traffic and dubious weather with world-class cuisine, spectacular coastal scenery, and impressive museums. However, one of the most common questions we are asked here at Valencia Travel is whether Peru is safe to travel to, and specifically, is Lima, Peru, safe? Just like anywhere on the planet, there is good and bad, and a lot depends on which part of Lima you will be traveling to when you visit Peru. Lima is a fairly safe destination for travelers when it comes to serious crime, which should be a relief to you! However, as is the case with any large city, opportunistic crime, such as theft, pickpocketing, etc., is prevalent in Lima, and tourists are often a target. If you leave a bag unattended in a café, it will disappear; if you flash your iPhone around, it will be snatched. The best thing to do is dress down, don´t flash valuable items like tablets or phones, watches, etc., and constantly keep your "Street Smarts" about you. Read this blog about Is Peru Safe to Travel? for more information.
What are The General Entry Requirements for Peru?
Entry requirements to Peru are, luckily, pretty straightforward. Travelers from the United States, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, and Canada do not require a visa to enter Peru for tourist activities. When you travel to Peru, you will be issued a free tourist visa in the form of a passport stamp. You will be given a 30 to 183-day stay. This is determined by border officers on arrival. If you want to extend your trip, you can request an extension before your initial permit expires. You should also be aware that you cannot extend a 183-day permit in any 1 year period. There are other types of visas available if you want to stay longer than this. Read our blog about entry requirements or whether you need a Peru visa for more detailed information!
What Type of Government Does Peru Have?
Peru is a democratic republic with three main branches: The Executive (The president), The Legislative (The National Congress), and The Judicial (The Court system). The President of Peru and the 130 members of Peru’s Congress are elected every five years when there are general elections in Peru. However, true freedom has been a long road for the people of Peru. Ever since independence from the Spanish, Peru´s political system has been a story of military leaders, dictators, and an impressive amount of corruption. Since the 1990s, however, Peru has eventually found an element of stability in its political system. Voting is compulsory for all Peruvian citizens between the ages of 18 to 70. People who don´t vote will be fined. Peru had one of the world’s fastest-growing economies between 1994 and 1997, which led to the country becoming more stable in general. The country is blessed with impressive natural resources such as silver, copper, and other minerals and metals. Agriculture, manufacturing, banking, and retail services are also significant contributors to Peru´s economy. Foreign investments in oil, gas, and, of course, tourism are also contributing factors to Peru´s stable economy.
Why Choose Peru Tours?
There are many Peru travel agencies, such as Valencia Travel, that will create tailor-made tours to Peru, and of course, that comes with a higher price tag than organizing a trip independently. They are the local experts about Peru and can offer important insight into all aspects of your trip
Do You Need a Guide for Machu Picchu?
Machu Picchu is often the main reason why people travel on Peru Day tours. This iconic Inca site receives thousands of visitors every day who come to Peru to see the Inca heritage and history firsthand. Everyone has to enter Machu Picchu with a guide. An authorized guide will provide more cultural and historical context to a Machu Picchu tour. A guide will take you to the most important temples and viewpoints for taking the best photos. They will also answer your questions and provide additional theories and information that you probably wouldn't find out alone. You can hire a guide at the Machu Picchu entrance of Machu Picchu or through a reputable Peru tour operator such as Valencia Travel, which, of course, includes an authorized guide on all Peru day tours. By booking in advance, you secure a guide who speaks your native language and who is available for your day trips in Peru.
How To Get to Cusco Peru?
Most people will arrive in Peru at Lima International Airport on their Peru Vacation Packages. Please remember that the Cusco airport is for domestic travel only (with the exception being a daily flight to La Paz in Bolivia). If you come directly from overseas via Lima, you should collect your bags in Lima and re-check them for your flight to Cusco. Four airline carriers fly between Lima and Cusco. That includes LATAM Airlines, Star Peru, and SKY Airlines. They all offer similar schedules and in-flight service. We usually recommend LATAM airlines. They have the most daily departures and tend to be the most helpful when unexpected flight cancellations or delays occur.
What Was Machu Picchu?
Machu Picchu is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. It is generally included in all Peru Travel Packages. However, Machu Picchu's original purpose is still unknown, though there are some interesting and convincing theories about Machu Picchu´s original purpose. Most archaeologists and historians agree that Machu Picchu was a sacred place, where its residents worshipped the natural elements, and other entities, animals, and stars, which they also considered gods, especially the Sun. The most popular theories are:
- 1. The Sacred City and refuge of the Inca Pachacutec
- 2. An Ancient Astronomical Observatory
- 3. The home of the Virgins of the Sun
- 4. An Agricultural Center
- 5. A combination of The Above.
Whatever theory you tend to align with, there is still an element of awe and fascination when it comes to Machu Picchu. This has to be the best reason to visit Machu Picchu on your Peru day tours
How Long Does A Machu Picchu Tour Take?
For most people who visit Peru, one day at Machu Picchu is enough. This is what the majority of people prefer. A 2-3 hour guided tour is enough to see all the important archaeological sections of Machu Picchu, including the terraces, temples, and viewpoints. What surprises most visitors on their day tours to Machu Picchu is the spectacular scenery that surrounds Machu Picchu. The location of Machu Picchu and how it was built in such a remote location has baffled archaeologists and visitors for decades! Some visitors are left wanting more. The energy, size, and incredible sights to see at Machu Picchu often make people decide to stay for an extra day to explore Machu Picchu to the fullest.
Which is the Best Mountain to Climb In Machu Picchu For Spectacular Views?
There are three principal ways to get high above Machu Picchu to take those amazing photos of Machu Picchu that you see on postcards, namely, Huayna Picchu Mountain, Machu Picchu Mountain, and the Sun Gate. Huayna Picchu offers views from a completely different angle than anywhere else, making the photos unique. This climb inside Machu Picchu is not for vertigo sufferers due to the sheer drops, but the reward is spectacular views of the surrounding valley and Machu Picchu itself. Machu Picchu Mountain also offers impressive views, and the hike is on wider pathways without the sheer drops. The path is also much less visited if you are seeking some time for reflection or to escape from the tourist crowds. The Sun Gate is where Inca Trail trekkers arrive at Machu Picchu for the first time. The views from the Sun Gate are stunning. All of these options require that you buy the specific permit that includes the climb you wish to hike on day tours to Machu Picchu. Find out more about Machu Picchu circuits and which one includes the mountain climb you would like to summit here!
Where is Huayna Picchu?
The Huayna Picchu Mountain is the famous conical mountain inside Machu Picchu that appears in all the postcards and photos of Machu Picchu. On arrival at Machu Picchu, you have the opportunity to do some trekking inside the Machu Picchu ruins on a climb up Huayna Picchu Mountain. This Machu Picchu hike offers spectacular views of the surrounding valley and the cloud forest below, as well as a different perspective of the Machu Picchu archaeological site. The only vantage point offering this angle. We do not recommend this climb for people who suffer from vertigo, as there are sheer drops along the narrow trail. This is also for people who have a decent fitness level and are well-acclimatized. Remember that you need a permit to climb Huayna Picchu, as places are limited, and you have to book the Huayna Picchu option along with your Peru Tour Packages. Let us know at the time of booking your trip if you would like this option!
What is the Huayna Picchu hike?
The Huayna Picchu hike is a climb up a steep trail, including stone steps carved into the Huayna Picchu mountainside. The Huayna Picchu Mountain stands at 2700 m / 8858 ft. elevation. There is a cable to assist you as you climb up the steps. The hike up Huayna Picchu is challenging, to say the least, and the time allowed is 2 hours to summit the peak. Huayna Picchu Permits are required, and you need to purchase the correct Machu Picchu circuit that includes this option. Entrance times are specified on your Machu Picchu ticket if you would like the Huayna Picchu option. This is a very popular climb, and tickets sell out really quickly as permits are limited.
How Many People Hike the Huayna Picchu Mountain?
Many people want to climb Huayna Picchu Mountain inside Machu Picchu for the spectacular views from the summit. The vistas over the valley below, the surrounding mountains, and the Machu Picchu archaeological site are absolutely astounding! The Huayna Picchu climb, however, is tricky, and you should only climb if you have a decent fitness level and do not suffer from vertigo. The Huayna Picchu hike requires a permit, and only 400 people are allowed to climb each day, in two shifts. 200 climb and when they have come back down, the second group can climb Huayna Picchu. Other trekkers hike the Machu Picchu Mountain instead, which is a longer hike that reaches a higher elevation, but is more gradual and without the sheer drops! The views from Machu Picchu Mountain are on a par with those from Huayna Picchu Mountain. Find more information about Huayna Picchu and how you can climb it on your Machu Picchu tour in our Huayna Picchu blog!
How Much Is a Tour Guide at Machu Picchu?
Your dream is probably to visit Machu Picchu on your trip to Peru. You will also be wondering about how much it will cost you. What are the associated costs of a Machu Picchu visit? When it comes to guided services, you basically have 2 options. If you decide to hire an authorized tour guide at the Machu Picchu entrance when you visit Peru, expect to pay $15 USD for a group service with other people. If you want a private tour of Machu Picchu, then the cost will be around $50 USD, which can be negotiated. If you prefer to book a one-day tour package, then a guided tour is included, with entrance tickets and transport to and from Cusco.
What Are The Best Day Tours In Peru?
Peru has so many incredible places to visit. Many multi-day tour packages do not include certain tours due to time constraints, budget, or logistics. If you have a little free time, or if you have a special interest, such as ornithology, hiking, gastronomy, culture, wellness, or photography, then our Peru day tours are for you! How to Get to Machu Picchu?
Machu Picchu is NOT the easiest place in the world to get to! The Andean geography and narrow valleys of the cloud forest around Machu Picchu limit access considerably to get to Machu Picchu. No wonder the Spanish never found the Inca archaeological site! There are no roads to Machu Picchu that connect Machu Picchu to Cusco or the Sacred Valley. This means that getting to Machu Picchu is not that straightforward, such as taking a bus to drive there. The Gateway to Machu Picchu is the ex-Inca Capital of Cusco. Generally speaking, because of the lack of roads, you can either get to Machu Picchu on foot or by train. While it is not possible to hike there on a day trip, you can get there and back on the train in just 1 day! Find out more about the different ways to get to Machu Picchu!

When is the Best Time to Visit Peru?
When to visit Peru can depend on various factors. Which regions will you be visiting on your Peru Vacations? Find out what the weather is like in Peru, and major events and festivals in Peru, etc. Let's break it down here!
What Weather Should I Expect on Peru Tour Packages?
The weather on your one-day tours in Peru generally depends on the season you are traveling to the country and the regions you will be visiting. Generally speaking, April to September is the dry season in the Andes and Winter on the Coast and in the jungle., November to February is the rainy season in the Andes and the Amazon, and summer on the coast. March and October are considered the shoulder seasons, which means the climate can be more unpredictable, wherever you are traveling on Peru day tours. Peru is in the southern hemisphere, so when it's summer in the USA and Europe, it is winter in Peru. June to August are the peak winter months in Peru, and November to February is summer. However, the rainy season in the Andes and the Machu Picchu region actually falls during the summer months, so although there are warmer temperatures, the weather is wet. The weather patterns have become more variable in the past few years, so we recommend that you prepare for sun and rain all year round when you visit. As far as the temperatures go, they are generally consistent throughout the year in the Andean region, with lower temperatures in winter. The coastal region enjoys warm summer weather from December to March. Mornings and evenings are always cold in the Andes. Make sure you bring a fleece jacket for the mornings and a down jacket for the evenings. Once the sun comes up, you should be comfortable in short sleeves anywhere in the Andes. Use sunblock, however, as the sun is extremely strong. Long pants are encouraged to help from the mosquitoes, which can be an issue in Aguas Calientes and at Machu Picchu. Views can be affected on your Machu Picchu tour all year round. Machu Picchu is situated in a cloud forest, so low-lying clouds and rain are common. Cloud cover is more common during the rainy season, but in general, the clouds lift as the sun comes over the mountains and burns away the clouds. Check out our informative blog about The Best Months to visit Peru.

We recommend doing a little research on your own, to check temperatures and weather patterns, and packing accordingly to the region nd the activity.

What Type of Plug-In Sockets Does Peru Have?
Most hotels and even homes in Peru now have both the standard US socket and the South American outlet. It is important to bring an adaptor that will allow you to plug in your devices that you plan to bring on your Peru sightseeing tours. Peru´s voltage is 220 volts, so double that in the USA, for example, meaning that your devices will blow up. Peru primarily uses two types of plug sockets:
Type A: This plug has two flat pins, similar to those used in North America. However, due to the higher voltage in Peru, it's not advisable to use a Type A plug for devices designed for 110-120 volts. If your device is dual voltage (110-240 volts), you can use a Type A adapter.
Type C: Type C plugs are the standard European two-pin plugs, with round pins. Most modern hotels and accommodations in Peru are equipped with Type C outlets.
What type of Day Pack Should I Bring for my Peru Tour?
Your daypack is one of the most important items of kit you need to bring for your Peru VacatFashion goes out the window, and the most important features should be comfort and design. Machu Picchu regulations only allow a maximum of 25L backpacks. If you exceed this 25L limit, the rangers will ask you to store your backpack at the entrance to Machu Picchu, for example.
- • A good day pack should be waterproof: Many of them are not. If your favorite daypack isn’t waterproof, you can buy a waterproof cover.
- • An adjustable backpack is vital. Check that they fit your body without restricting your movement or rubbing your shoulders and hips. The best manufacturers, like Osprey and The North Face, design specific bags for women trekkers. They have reshaped hip belts that are wider, more molded, and narrower, but with broader shoulder straps. You will become “at one” with your daypack during your Peru tour package, so make sure it fits you well.
Remember, the focus is on packing light for your one day tours in Peru. Your day pack should only be for the items that you need for that specific day´s touring, so leave anything else in your hotel.
How To Prepare Physically for Your Peru Travel Packages
It is always an advantage to have a decent fitness level for your Peru adventure day trips. This is especially so when you are traveling through the Andean region of Peru and, of course, to Machu Picchu. Having good leg and core strength will help you a lot on your. Peru hiking day tours. Here are some ways to prepare for your unique Peru day experiences.
- A. Strengthen your legs. You want leg strength as well as core muscle strength to help with your balance on uneven terrain. Flexibility and endurance are your friends to walking around the mountains on your Peru off-the-beaten-path day tours. Practice walking up and down steps at home as practice.
- B. Develop your endurance. Do training hikes at home on uneven terrain and with walking sticks.
- C. Wear your hiking boots at home to make sure they are comfortable and to get your feet used to them.
- D. Do whatever cardiovascular exercise you can. Running, swimming, cycling, and aerobics all increase cardiovascular activity and will set you up well for Peru day hikes.
- E. Acclimatize. Spend your first few days at altitude, taking it easy. Cusco is at a higher elevation than Machu Picchu, so it will stand you in good stead for your Machu Picchu visit and also when you head to higher elevations such as Lake Titicaca.
Peru Off-The-Beaten-Path Day Tours
Traveling to any destination anywhere in the world can be hard, both emotionally and physically. Peru and South America are no exception; you need to take care of your health to enjoy your Peru adventure day trips. Here are some handy tips for healthy travel and some advice to stay healthy during your Peru excursions.
Before You Leave Home
Visit a travel clinic before you travel, and your doctor will be able to give you the injections you need for the locations you wish to visit. Vaccines and medications are one of the best ways to protect yourself while traveling. Vaccines for Hepatitis B, Typhoid, Cholera, and traveler's diarrhea are the most common you will need when you come to Peru.
Pack a Decent First Aid Kit
You may think that you don´t need one, but a first aid kit is an essential part of any Peru trip preparation. Take the essentials like anti-diarrheal medication, antihistamines, anti-motion sickness medication, pain relievers, laxatives, antacids, anti-bacterial ointment, hand sanitizer, band-aids, cream for sunburn, and rehydration salts. If you don’t need them, then great, but it is better to have them!
Travel Insurance, we all know that when we are traveling, this is an extra expense that you might not want to spend, but a basic policy is essential for your Peru trip. Should something happen, you can at least rely on your policy to help get you home. Without it, you may be in serious trouble during your day trips in Peru.
Build up your fitness level with aerobic training or cardiovascular training. This refers to activities that use oxygen to adequately meet the demands of exercise through aerobic exercises and should be the focus of your preparation for your day trips in Peru. Swimming, running, and hiking are all great ways to prepare!
Mental Preparation. Training for your vacation is as much about your physical endurance as it is about your mental stamina. Make sure you have a good mental attitude before arriving in Peru. That means preparing yourself mentally for a challenge and being outside of your comfort zone. There is a reason why many people see must-do day tours in Peru as a bucket list item as well as a physical challenge!
During your Peru Vacation Packages
Water. Anywhere you travel in the world, you need to be careful with the drinking water. Normally, what most people do is buy bottled water; this is the best idea, but make sure that the seal is intact. Take a refillable water bottle and fill it at your hotel. Hot drinks are also the way to go, as you know that the water has been boiled.
Eat healthily and in reputable restaurants to avoid illness that could take away valuable travel time on your Peru day tours. Wait until after you have acclimatized to try or experiment with the local cuisine, and try all of the delicious dishes on offer in Peru.
The Altitude. Take it easy when you arrive at high altitude, and drink plenty of water. Do not take the altitude lightly; this can make you feel bad, and you do not want to spoil the rest of your Peru day trips! Do nothing more than stroll around for the first few days until you feel your breathing is normal and you are used to the thinner air. After a couple of days, do some day hikes around the local archaeological sites or some mountain biking in the Sacred Valley, for example, as great preparation for the higher elevations.
Save the parties and drinking Alcohol until after you have acclimatized, your body will thank you for it. Alcohol can cause terrible hangovers at altitude and should be avoided, at least while you are acclimatizing 😊. Save the Pisco Sours as a celebration for after your trip.

You can also sign up for a local gym if you want to maintain your fitness regime from back home. Explain to a trainer how long you have been traveling in Peru or have been at high altitude, to make sure you are not over-exerting yourself, especially in Cusco or other high-altitude cities.

Peru Tours
When looking at the different Peru sightseeing tours, it’s a good idea to consider your physical ability. Some people are seasoned travelers and do it all year round, whereas some people come for the first time to somewhere like Peru. You should be fit and healthy and know your limits. Also, be aware that trekking at high altitudes in the Andes of Peru is much more strenuous, so enjoy a few days at a city or town in the region before setting off on foot. For example, spend at least 2 days resting at altitude prior to any strenuous activities. The more you spend acclimatizing, the better experience you will have on your Peru adventure day trips. The ideal time to book can vary depending on several factors, including the time of year you plan to visit, if you are visiting Machu Picchu, and your personal preferences. Here are some general guidelines to help you determine when to book your Peru day tours.
Peak Season vs. Off-Season For Peru Excursions
Peru's peak tourist season typically coincides with the dry season, which runs from May to September. During this time, we recommend that you book your Must-do day tours in Peru in advance. In this way, you can make sure you book the right time to suit your preferred activities.
Shoulder Seasons
The shoulder seasons, which include April and October, can be a good compromise between avoiding the big crowds and the risk of bad weather. You can often book these months with a bit less advance notice, around 1 month in advance. You will enjoy the bonus of fewer people and avoid a lot of queuing, too!
Rainy Season
The rainy season in Peru typically lasts from November to March. The rainy season is a great time to visit the Andes of Peru due to fewer people and the greener countryside all around you. You should also be able to book your preferred hotels, as well as your preferred train times to Machu Picchu and other signature sites on your Peru excursions.
Should I Book a Group Tour or a Private Tour?
If you plan to join a group tour for your one-day tours in Peru, it's a good idea to book as early as possible to secure your spot, especially if you have specific dates in mind. Group tours for Peru sightseeing tours will have fixed dates due to other people's bookings, so you need to book your trip on the same date and have flexibility. For private Peru day tours, you will have a lot more flexibility and choose your exact departure date, but it's still wise to plan ahead to ensure availability. Group guided day tours Peru will be more cost-effective as the expenses are shared between all group members. Private Peru excursions will be more expensive, but you will have a completely personalized experience, be able to travel at your own pace, and visit on the dates of your choice!
What is the Difference Between Private and Group Peru Day Tours?
Private Peru Tours
There are many excellent reasons to choose private tours in Peru! Private Peru day tours are generally the same as a group tour package and follow the same route. However, on a private tour, you have a lot more flexibility according to your needs. You will have a guide just for you and your traveling party, who will take you to amazing places where large groups generally do not go.
Why Book Private Peru Day Tours?

- Flexibility.

Group Peru Travel Packages
The main reason to book small group Peru day excursions is to save money because you share the cost of the logistics to run the tour with other travelers. You will also meet people from all over the world on group trips.
Why Book Group Peru Tour Packages?
- Save money
- Meet People from all over the world
- Share unique experiences with other travelers.
Do I Need Travel Insurance?
Peru is a popular destination for Peru adventure day trips with activities like Machu Picchu tours, mountain biking in the Andes, and surfing on the Pacific coast. However, it is important to note that these activities can be dangerous, and it is important to have travel insurance in case of an accident or illness, on any must-do day tours in Peru. Here are some important pointers about understanding travel insurance and what you need to know.
What is Travel Insurance?
Travel insurance is a type of insurance that protects you against financial losses incurred while traveling. It can cover a variety of expenses, including medical bills, lost luggage, and trip cancellations during your vacation.
Why is Travel Insurance Important for Peru?
Peru is a developing country with limited medical facilities, especially in remote areas. If you have an accident or illness while on a Peru excursion, you could face high medical bills. Travel insurance can help cover these costs, as well as the cost of transportation back home.
Additionally, Peru is a country with a wide range of climates and altitudes. It is important to be prepared for the possibility of altitude sickness, heatstroke, and other health problems. Travel insurance can help cover the cost of medical treatment for these conditions.
What Types of Adventure Activities are Covered by Travel Insurance?
Most travel insurance policies will cover a wide range of adventure activities, on your Peru hiking day tours. These include
- Machu Picchu Tours
- Trekking in The Andes
- Mountain biking in the Sacred Valley
- Surfing in the North of Peru
- Whitewater Rafting Excursions
- Scuba diving off The Coast
- Skydiving
- Sandboarding in Huacachina
- Ziplining in The Sacred Valley
However, it is important to check your policy carefully to make sure that the specific activities you are planning are covered.
How Should I Choose a Travel Insurance Policy?
When choosing a travel insurance policy for any of our Peru day tours, there are a few things to keep in mind:
- Make sure the policy covers the adventure activities you are planning. As mentioned above, not all travel insurance policies cover all adventure activities. Be sure to check your policy carefully to make sure that the specific activities you are planning are covered.
- Choose a policy with a high enough medical coverage limit. Medical costs in Peru can be high, so it is important to choose a policy with a high enough medical coverage limit to cover your potential expenses.
- Consider purchasing evacuation coverage. Evacuation coverage can help cover the cost of transporting you back home in case of a medical emergency. This is especially important if you are planning Peru off-the-beaten-path day tours to remote regions.
- Remember that Peru is a country that can have natural disasters. There is a possibility of earthquakes, Tsunamis on the coast, landslides/mudslides, in the wet season, and extremely high rivers during the wet season. It is always best to be prepared for every eventuality, as although rare, these occurrences do happen.
Check With Your Embassy for Actual Travel Conditions
Also, make sure you check with your embassy about a possible travel advisory for visiting the country. Sometimes it is better to postpone your trip in the event of any political unrest or extreme weather conditions in the country.
How Can I File a Travel Insurance Claim?
If you need to file a travel insurance claim, you should contact your insurance company as soon as possible. They will be able to guide you through the process and help you get the compensation you are entitled to.
Travel insurance is an important investment for any traveler, but it is especially important for travelers to Peru. With its diverse landscape and range of adventure activities, Peru is a country where accidents can happen. Travel insurance can help protect you from financial losses in case of an accident or illness during your Peru Vacation packages.
How Should I Choose and Use Travel Insurance in Peru?
- Read the policy carefully before you buy it. Make sure you understand the terms and conditions of the policy, including what is and is not covered.
- Purchase your insurance policy early. This will give you time to file a claim if necessary.
- Keep a copy of your insurance policy with you at all times. This will make it easy to file a claim if you need to, during your vacation packages to Peru.
- Contact your insurance company if you have any questions or concerns. They will be able to help you understand your policy and file a claim if necessary.

What Are The Entry and Visa Requirements to Enter Peru?
Here, we will delve into the entry requirements for when you visit Peru. This will ensure that your travel plans are not only well-informed but also hassle-free. Whether you are a seasoned traveler or setting foot in Peru for the first time, we will walk you through the visa regulations and essential documentation needed to ensure you have a seamless and unforgettable experience.
What Are The Entry Requirements for European and US Citizens?
A passport with six months' validity is required to enter Peru. Immigration authorities may also require evidence of return/onward travel.
Make sure Peruvian Immigration officially documents your date and place of entry, whether you arrive at a port, airport, or land border.
Your length of approved stay will be determined by border officials at the time of entry and can range from 30 to 183 days. Extensions for tourists are usually not approved, and overstays result in fines.
The Embassy is unable to assist if you are denied entry. Peruvian immigration requires airlines to return travelers who are denied entry to their point of origin.
Requirements for Exit:
If you do not have an entry record, you will not be allowed to exit the country until immigration authorities confirm the time and place of your entry into the country. This can be a difficult process, costing considerable time and money to resolve.
Make sure the Immigration authorities record your entry and then save the record for your exit. An entry record is required even at remote border crossings, where often the proper officials are not present.
Immediately report lost/stolen passports to local police and keep the report. You must apply for a new passport at the Embassy and obtain a replacement entry record from Immigration using your police report prior to exiting Peru.
Travel to Peru with Minors:
Regardless of nationality, all children who are traveling with both birth parents are required to have a valid passport and the necessary visa or citizenship for Peru. Peruvian immigration procedures are complex for minors traveling without one or both parents/legal guardians.
For entry/exit from Peru, foreigners, minors under the age of 18, traveling alone or with only one parent, generally do not require additional documentation if entering as a tourist for less than 183 days. However, if the stay lasts more than 183 days, then a “Permiso Notarial de Viaje” is required.
* A Permiso Notarial de Viaje is a written, notarized authorization from the non-traveling parent(s). Peruvian immigration will not accept a document notarized by a foreign Embassy or a document notarized by a foreign notary in lieu of a Permiso Notarial de Viaje. Please be aware that these authorizations are valid for 30 days and one trip only.
Minors who are dual-national Peruvians, traveling alone or with only one parent, require a “Permiso Notarial de Viaje”. Furthermore, step-parents or guardians accompanying a dual U.S. or European Peruvian citizen minor must provide a Permiso Notarial de Viaje from the non-traveling minor’s parents (as listed on the birth certificate). Finally, if an accompanying parent has sole custody, legal documentation is required. For example, a foreign court-approved custody document stating sole custody, a death certificate, a Peruvian court-approved document for travel, or a birth certificate listing only one parent.

What Can I Do For Drinking Water On My Peru Excursions?
Peru is a country renowned for its rich cultural heritage, stunning scenery, epic archaeological sites such as Machu Picchu, and delectable cuisine. Yet, when it comes to something as fundamental as the quality of tap water, many travelers and even residents often question its safety. The question that looms large is: Can you drink the tap water in Peru without any concern? Here, we'll explore the state of tap water in Peru, the challenges it faces, and the measures you can take to ensure your drinking water is safe on your day tour in Peru.
The Quality of Tap Water in Peru
Tap water quality in Peru can vary widely depending on where you are in the country on your trip. In cities like Lima and Cusco, the water treatment infrastructure is generally better, making the tap water safer to drink. However, in more remote or rural areas, access to safe drinking water can be a significant challenge. Even in Cusco, locals will boil the tap water before drinking it.
Contamination Concerns
Peru faces issues with water contamination, which can include bacteria, viruses, and pollutants from industrial and agricultural sources. This contamination can lead to health risks, particularly for those with weaker immune systems.
Boiling Water
Boiling tap water is a common practice in Peru to make it safe for consumption, especially in remote regions on your tours. Boiling water kills most microorganisms, making it a straightforward method to ensure safer drinking water. However, it may not remove chemical pollutants.
Bottled Water
Many locals and tourists opt for bottled water during their trips to avoid any potential risks associated with tap water. While this is a convenient option, it can contribute to plastic waste, an environmental concern that should not be overlooked. Remember that plastic is not allowed inside Machu Picchu. So we recommend that you bring a refillable water bottle for the duration of your Peru Trip that you can fill with purified water at your hotel.
Improvements in Water Quality
Peru has made efforts to improve water quality in recent years. Water treatment plants, infrastructure upgrades, and government initiatives have all aimed to make tap water safer for consumption during your day tours. The extent to which these improvements have reached every region of the country varies.
